One of our favorite things to do as a family is to watch shows on TV about other large(r) families. We were very excited to see the Duggar's get their own show this year. We were checking out their website the other day and I noticed they had their "house rules" that could be downloaded. I think they are great rules and we are working on implementing them in our own home. We are going to work on one rule at a time, until all 22 of them are habits.
Yesterday we started working on the first rule: "Always use soft words, even when you don't feel well". This is probably the easiest rule on the list for me personally because I don't yell a lot. I did realize though, that there is a difference between not yelling and speaking softly. Over the past few weeks we had been memorizing Proverbs 15:1 "A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger". We had talked about how our communication is so much more than just the words we say, and includes our tone of voice and body language. Most of us in this house have a more difficult time with how we say things, than with what we actually say.
To help us remember to speak softly yesterday, everyone, Dad and I included, got 5 stickers. If we were caught not using soft words, we lost a sticker. All was well until certain children started to become smug at their ability to avoid losing stickers, and gloating when their siblings lost stickers.
It appears we are going to need a lesson on pride next!

I saw that they had their own show but really I'd rather see someone who had sacrificed to adopt many, many needy children get a show rather than someone who just keeps popping them out : )
downloaded the house rules, already in effect;)
I struggled with that too Kathy, but I think that they are a great example of a Christian home and I appreciate that they allowed God to build their family His way instead of their own way. I really enjoy watching the show. :)
